"It's always been fun at the Prep, but one of the best things is that there is always a challenge."

Max.

National IAPS Judo Championships 2010

Six Prep boys took part in the National IAPS Judo Championships at High Wycombe on Saturday 8th May, the premier annual national event for IAPS schools attracting competitors from across Britain.

Three boys entered the U27kg category which had 32 contestants. Max won three fights to reach the final where he took the silver medal. Armaan won two bouts and was winning his third with 30 seconds left on the clock before losing to a difficult opponent and taking 7th place. Leeran won his first contest but lost out in the bronze medal repercharge.

Neer, boldly entering his first tournament after just one term's judo, was the star performer of the day in the U30kgs. Although he lost both his fights, his determination and fighting spirit earned him the personal praise of the tournament Director. In his last contest Neer threw his opponent with an almost perfect technique only to lose by being thrown himself in the last four seconds !

Matthew Copley also performed well in the U30kgs and Jordan Becker competed in the U34kgs.

The boys were coached on the day by Edward Almond (Year 10) who assists with Prep Judo on Thursdays and is himself  a former National IAPS and British Schools Champion.  "The boys showed considerable determination." said Ed. "They are showing signs of significant progress in a short time. If the boys carry on working hard to improve, I am sure HABS will soon be adding to their medal success. A commendable effort by all !"
